If you are like me and enjoy golf and are a bit of a techno-geek then this is for you. I recently took the plunge and purchased an iPhone for work and I discovered what a fantastic tool it is for golf. Over the next couple of posts I will highlight some of the terrific apps available for golfers.
The first must have app is the Golfshot GPS app. It is $29.99 from the iTunes store and it turns your iPhone into a GPS range finder with all the features of the $300+ stand alone GPS range finders. I mentioned this app in a previous post and I thought I might fill in a bit more info on this cool new app.
It allows you to see aerial images of your favorite course, see distances to specific spots and track shots and distances of drives.
Not only does it give you the yardage to your favorite layup distances, it is easy to keep score and the auto handicap feature is pretty cool too.
They have a great website that keeps track of all of the things you care about like Greens in Regulation, Sand Saves, Fairways hit, Scrambling, and Putting averages. oh yah, it even emails you the scorecard after you complete your round. Now if it would only clean my wedges… ;o)
In real world testing I find that the aerial views are too hard to see in bright sunlight, and you have to get used to the 30 second or so delay in getting accurate yardages when it comes out of its GPS active power save mode. I just wake it up 20 yards from my ball and I have the numbers by the time I get there.
I really like this app and I say buy it!
