The folks over at Callaway says the new Chrome Soft, changes the golf ball category, and after four full rounds, I have to say they are right. Anyone who has read this blog before will not be surprised that I like the Chrome Soft, because over the years, I have reviewed and generally liked Callaway balls. But you might be surprised to hear me say that this is the best golf ball I have ever played, hands down, period.
This ball is like nothing I have ever hit, I even hate going to the driving range, because of the dramatic difference in distance and feel. How dramatic is the distance? I am consistently one club longer, through all my irons. My Driver, now has another gear, and this ball holds its line as well as any pro ball out there. Soft, no, this is another level of soft. But it is more than just a soft ball, it spins, like any of the top urethane covered pro balls from 100yds and in, it just flies further.
The ball is explosive off the driver through 7 iron. I have hit some of the best drives I have hit in years, and at age 52, I have had two drives over 260 with the ball. What it has done for me with the driver, is allowed me to relax and not feel like I have to swing so hard to get the yardage I need. In one round, I was able to hit my 6 iron over 180 yards.
It’s not just me, though. A friend of mine picked up a dozen and told me his big miss for the day was flying the second shot over the green. He was so excited, he played the next day.
If you are tired of crispy distance balls that feel terrible from 100 in. If you are tired of golf balls that feel soft, but charge you ten yards for the feel. You should really try a sleeve of the Chrome Soft.
